How Many Gram Sugar Am I Allowed to Eat in A Day?

How many gram sugar diabetic allowed to consume?

There is no fix number of grams of sugar you are allowed to consume each day, but you should eat sugar sparingly.  Sugar has calories but few nutrient like vitamins or minerals.  Food high in sugar are usually high in fat too.  This will lead to poor diabetes control and weight gain.

The nutritional label gives the number of grams of sugar in the food.  This number includes both natural and added sugars.  Natural sugars are found naturally in foods such as fructose in raisins or lactose in milk.  These sugar provide some vitamins and minerals.  Added refine sugar are put into foods to make them sweet, such as sugar in cookies or corn syrup in soft drinks.  These sugar are empty calorie and provide not other nutrients.

When you read the food label, check the type of sugar the food contains, and focus on the grams of total carbohydrate rather that the gram of sugar.  Sugar and sweets are fine occasionally, in small portion.  Remember if you substitute them for other carbohydrate foods in your meal plan, check and see how your blood glucose is affected by them.
